Designing a Great Transit Experience for Everyone

Customer expectations for accessible, equitable, and point-to-point service have reshaped the requirements for urban transportation networks of the future. On- demand service, micro-transit, and paratransit are a necessity for public transit providers. Existing modes, that were previously chosen by default, now must be evaluated against newer technologies such as autonomous vehicles and personal rapid transit networks. skyTran aims to redefine urban public transport using small, autonomous public transit vehicles, designed with accessibility in mind, that carry customers directly from selected origin to selected destination. This radical departure from the current transit experience provides opportunities to deliver a superior customer experience, but also raises several complex questions and decisions to be considered. For the new skyTran technology: How will agencies and passengers choose between shared and individualized journeys? How do we ensure our system provides service that is universally accessible and equitable? How do we grow ridership by creating an experience that is preferable to driving?
